This VN is set in a post-apocalyptic world.
It centres around Mateo, a young warrior.
You will decide the fate of New Antioch.
Story
New Antioch is an adult visual novel that unfolds in a post-apocalyptic setting, taking place thousands of years after a catastrophic conflict led to the collapse of an advanced civilization. Humanity has regressed into a new feudal era, marked by ruthless political maneuvering, endless warfare, and a mysterious reproductive crisis, pushing the species closer to extinction.
In the game, you assume the role of Mateo (or a name of your choosing), a feared enforcer serving a relatively influential mining province. You are the one dispatched to confront their adversaries and handle unexpected challenges that arise during mining operations. When an injustice occurs, you are reluctantly assigned the task of infiltrating New Antioch, the grand capital city controlled by your superiors, with the aim of orchestrating its downfall.
The lore in this game is very interesting, as you will encounter various distinct factions, locations, characters, and stories that incorporate elements of romance, violence (including graphic content), and mature themes. Ultimately, you hold the power to determine the destiny of New Antioch, explore long-forgotten dungeons, and uncover your true identity.
So far, there aren’t many lewd scenes, only a bit of nudity, but I’m sure that will come afterwards. The story’s concept is truly impressive, and it appears that you have the option to embrace your father’s legacy as the “Dreadwolf” or forge a new path, one characterised by compassion. In the game, you also get to make many choices, which will then shape the trajectory.
The biggest mystery revolves around a slave girl named Aquila, whom you get to hang out with by the end of the episode. There are also many references to Dungeons & Dragons, a fantasy tabletop role-playing game (and you also get to play a version of it in the game, Magic and Manticores).
The writing is great, witty, and humorous without any errors. For me, this looks like a promising start to a fantastic game.
Graphic
The visuals are absolutely stunning. The dev has played with lighting, creating monsters and magical creatures while also keeping an eye on character design. The MC looks like Adam Driver.
I noticed that, at the moment, there is a greater presence of male characters in the game, which is less typical for this genre. However, Aquila’s remarkable beauty also caught my attention, and I appreciate the deliberate timing of her introduction, which builds anticipation.
So far, there aren’t any animations.
Gameplay
Some in-game elements, like personality traits, look really good on screen. I like the overall number of decisions you get to make, and some of them are definitely impactful. Others are a great addition to the story and help you shape the MC’s personality.
In general, the character design is realistic—people with all kinds of body shapes and scares, which make the game more immersive. The music and the sounds are well thought out.
Curley’s comments
New Antioch is a promising game with a mysterious but slow-burning story and good world-building behind it. The characters are interesting, and I can’t wait to see what’s going to become of Mateo and Aquila. Is there going to be any action? We’ll see.
