Much has passed since the end of the world as we know it.

As a Desert Stalker, you explore the violent remains of a civilization among deserts and abandoned cities in what was once Egypt.

You decide how you treat people, form your alliances, engage in different activities, and whether you have a self-centered or altruistic personality.

Story

The story is set in a post-apocalyptic world, or more precisely, on the territory of Egypt. What once was a powerful and modern civilization now looks more like ruins, hidden beneath layers of sand. The plot revolves around a middle-aged, married guy with two (step) daughters. He belongs to a special faction of people called Stalkers, sort of like mercenaries, who carry out important tasks for the beautiful and powerful Queen Merneith.

The world building is intricate and detailed and can give you a really immersive atmosphere of the dystopian future. There are secret societies, violent renegade groups, cannibals, and so much more. The game is very atmospheric and has a unique design. Everything looks as if it was sprinkled with dust and sand, and the overall feel is a bit dark. Nevertheless, I loved the consistency and the level of gore, which is quite high in this one. Still, you can choose at the beginning of the game whether you would like to see all the carnage or keep it mild.

As for the main character, you play as Zaton, one of the stalkers whose task is to collect artifacts from the forgotten ancient temples. This kind of lifestyle allows you to live a more peaceful life, but even though your family at home provides a safe and tranquil haven, the aftermath of the war still plagues the land, and you will occasionally be placed in harsher environments.

The game starts with one of your quests. After finding an ancient figurine, you have to head to Old Cairo to get some fuel for your car. The Bastet figurine you found can bring you a lot of fortune, but something happens along the way, and you have to make an important choice that will determine a young elf’s future. Where did the mutant come from? What will you choose? It depends on you.

The catch with this game lies exactly in the decisions you make. You see, the story is completely decision-driven, and what you choose shapes how the story will continue. In a world full of violence, decay, and plundering, your choices matter and can take you to a whole different branch of the story.

Being the direct hand of the Queen brought you some benefits. You have your own land and a house that sort of looks like a small castle. There, you live with Zahra, your wife, and your two daughters (or stepdaughters), Shani and Ain. You also have a slave girl, Emilia. It is clear that you enjoy status and wealth, and you can develop your personality more through the choices you make. You can continue to be a complete badass—a dominant male in his prime—or you can choose to be more diplomatic. Either way, you continue to be a powerful and masculine figure.

You meet a bunch of characters, especially female ones, which brings me to my next point: the sexual content.

There are loads of really good lewd scenes, and the possibilities are numerous. You can be intimate with your family members as well as other women you encounter on a day-to-day basis. Again, you can choose not to engage in those encounters sexually, but this is your free choice, and you have many sexy opportunities. The kink exploration is pretty decent in this one, as you have some BDSM elements, or you can stay vanilla. NTR is optional, and the sharing scenes ended up being really good, so I didn’t regret my choice.

What I really enjoyed were the dialogues and the fighting scenes. The game is pretty tense, and it brought me to the edge of my seat many times.

Graphic

I like the design style of this game. The renders are high-quality, with great lighting and attention to details. I love the design of the surroundings and the people. Every single faction has some distinctive features, and it’s really interesting to slowly get to know more information about the different groups and characters.

As for the models, they are insanely beautiful and distinctive. Zahra, Shani, and Ain all have darker skin and beautiful, big eyes. There are a bunch of other female characters you meet and have contact with, but I especially liked Queen Merneith.

The animations are good, but they are still a bit too robotic for me. Still, the graphics improve how the game develops.

Gameplay

Desert Stalker allows you to experience the in-game world in one of the best ways ever. It is very immersive; the tension is real, and your choices really matter. The story deals with all the different factions and characters in such a detailed way, and the flow is really good.

You have different quests and raids that you can complete, but the story is easily one of the best ones ever.

The music is very fitting and atmospheric.

There are other really good additions, but I’m going to leave that to you to explore.

Hands down, this is one of the best games I’ve ever played. The content is incredible, the playability is insanely good, and you can even start the game multiple times from the beginning to see where it gets you with different decisions. I love the lore and the different characters you can meet.
